Sweet Songs Booking Co., established in 1985, is entering a new chapter. After years of involvement in music performance, education, and artist development, I'm revisiting the booking business with an emphasis on something that has always mattered to me: connecting musicians with places where their music can be heard and appreciated.
Much has changed in the music business since 1985. The way venues discover performers, the way musicians promote themselves, and the economics of live performance are very different today. But one thing hasn't changed: musicians need audiences, venues need good performers, and making the right connections takes time and effort.
That's where Sweet Songs Booking Co. comes in.
What's New at Sweet Songs?
One of my current projects is developing and organizing a database of live music venues and presenters, particularly throughout New England.
The goal isn't simply to assemble an enormous list of restaurants, clubs, theaters, and festivals. It's to identify legitimate, operating venues that actually present live music, understand what kinds of performances they're interested in, and establish useful contact information.
A venue database is only as valuable as the information it contains. An outdated email address, a permanently closed restaurant, or a business that stopped presenting music years ago isn't much help to anyone.
I'm working toward a more useful resource, with an emphasis on accuracy, relevance, and practical communication.
The research includes traditional listening rooms and concert venues, along with community events, cultural organizations, festivals, and other presenters that may offer opportunities for musicians.
Artist Registration Is Available
Musicians interested in being considered for future booking opportunities can introduce themselves through the Sweet Songs Booking Co. registration process.
The purpose is to learn more about each artist, including musical style, instrumentation, performance experience, location, and the kinds of engagements they're seeking.
I'm particularly interested in musicians who have developed a distinctive sound, whether they're solo performers, duos, acoustic ensembles, traditional musicians, or groups working in other genres.
Registration provides a way to establish contact and share information. It does not guarantee representation or bookings.

A Growing Focus on New England Venues
New England has an extraordinary musical landscape. There are well-established concert halls, small listening rooms, community arts organizations, local festivals, seasonal outdoor events, and countless independent presenters.
Many of these organizations operate on limited budgets and rely on a relatively small number of people to organize their programs.
Finding appropriate performers can be just as challenging for a venue as finding appropriate venues can be for a musician.
Sweet Songs is approaching the problem from both directions: developing information about artists while researching the presenters and organizations that might be interested in their music.
The immediate geographical emphasis is New England, with particular attention to Western Massachusetts and surrounding areas.
Technology, Research, and the Booking Business
Another change since the early days of Sweet Songs is the availability of sophisticated research and organizational tools.
I'm experimenting with artificial intelligence to help investigate venues, organize contact information, identify outdated records, and manage some of the administrative work involved in maintaining a booking database.
These tools can be helpful, but they don't replace the need for accurate information or good judgment.
A computer can identify a possible venue. It can't automatically establish whether that venue is appropriate for a particular musician, whether the contact information is reliable, or whether a proposed performance makes sense for everyone involved.
Those questions still require investigation, communication, and experience.
My intention is to use technology to reduce unnecessary administrative work so that more attention can be devoted to the relationships that make live music possible.
Looking Ahead to 2027
As 2026 draws toward its final months, this is a useful time to begin thinking about next year's performance calendar.
Festivals, concert series, community organizations, and seasonal presenters often plan their programming well in advance. For musicians, preparing promotional materials and establishing contacts early can make a difference.
Sweet Songs will continue developing its artist information, researching potential performance opportunities, and refining the systems needed to support future booking activity.
This is an ongoing project, and I'll share further developments as the work progresses.
